Opening Day press conference 1-4-2011

Say No to Hate! Beat Back the Republican Attack!

Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2011
12:00 noon
State Capitol Building

Because of the election, right-wing Republicans have control of the Minnesota State House and Minnesota State Senate. In the past several years, we have seen them come up with crazy ideas – based on poor-bashing, racism and greed.  They have tried to take away the programs and services that we need to survive, especially now, in these times.

We are in the worst economic crisis since the 1930s. Besides fighting against these sick attacks, we have to demand:
• Jobs or Income Now
• Housing, Healthcare and Education as Human Rights
• Tax the Rich and use the Money to Help Poor and Working People

Organized by:
Welfare Rights Committee and the MN Coalition for a People’s Bailout 612-822-8020

    hi all

    comment from uk.

i have been trying to find any information on the result of welfare reform in america – in particular winsconsin – the reports in press and media hail welfare reforms as a great success.

being of a sum what cynical nature i have been trying to find out the truth behind the spin.

the newly elected consevative government in the uk are proposing to introduce a new welfare system built around your system of welfare – they hail winsconsin as the way forward – although i have tried to find evidence that it has improved and help people off welfare, the main source evidence i am getting is from the companys that run the schemes that find people work not exaclty independant.

can you help me find other sources of information.

    greatfully for any help offeded.

    best wishes with your campaingns

      Hello,

Thanks for contacting us. Yes welfare reform is mostly a failure because it doesn’t provide jobs with REAL liveable wages. If it does suceed, it was in one county in California were there were jobs.

As for Wisconsin, contact Welfare Warriors: pat welfare warriors

I will look into other resources.

What are some of the UK’s links on their welfare programs.
